Our kids "keep up" with society?

I remember when i was just started kindergarden,

Being able to write and read was not expected,
Sure we know some very simple numbers and letters,
But not in reading and writing .
But things and education have changed a lot in the past 30 years ...
Now kids are expected to at least write some simple letters and numbers before start preschool, perhaps some reading.

So .. is our kids "keep up" with society ?

Now Big J was coming to 5yo,
Means he had more on reading and writing ,
& more homework in the kindy!!
I don't hv this worry last 2 years when he is just started kindy,
Cos i just want him to have fun ,I believe, happy kids learn better.

Now when he enter 5yo kindy,
2 more years he be going to primary,
I started to get a little worry now,
How do i know he is on par with his peers when it comes to reading and writing.

According to teachers,
He is doing good in Mandarin & English :D
OKAY in Maths :)
BUT a BIG NO NO to Bahasa Melayu :(
He just can't catching up with the suku kata ...
Different sound he will pronouns ,
If without the pictures given, he can't tell what it is !!

Some kindy already started Spelling .
I wander when is mine coming soon !!???

I get him some execise books last few months,
I realize , he ONLY interested in SCIENCE,
Guess Science is more interesting for him,
Compared to Writing and reading like Mandarin, Bahasa and English.

It means, in kindy he had his own teachers for each subjects,
At home , mummy is the teacher for ALL subjects!!
For me, Teachers is HARD to be !!
I still like being Mother :P

He is good in Science
He is good on basic and general knowledge.
But when come to hand writing ...
hmmmm ....
Without 'double line' for him to write,
That's how the hand writing goes ... too small, too big or uneven.
Mandarin.
Even with dotted line also he can't follow nicely,
He wanna do it fast and no patient .
Sometime it depand on his mood too , So young already got mood .. O.o
Good means come out with nice hand writing,
Bad means ugly hand writing !!
& this is the homework from kindy,
Rub and rewrite , rub and rewrite .... for manytime.
But many time i just can't stand if his hand writing was too ugly ..
I get so frustrated ... it seem like is MY Homework !!
Many time i know he CAN have a good writing, If he put his 'heart ' in ,
If he seat properly, if he holding the pencil right , if he ......
aiiii ..... am i taking it too hard here ??
From young this boy always had his own way ,
Own decision , own taste on doing many things .
Same goes to colouring .
Sometime , perhaps manytime,
He can't accept that the Sun is Yellow or Orange in colour.
The people face should be Cream or Orange colour .
He just like to give his own colour .
& worst ... it must be a rainbow colour or many colours .
Everytime, i asked why you colour such a way ??
He always said his colour is very nice and that's the way it should be O.o
& yet he always said teacher don't give him sticker and star for colouring !!!

Besides that,
He is doing pretty good on shapes,
Maybe that's the reason he is doing well and catching up in Chinese.
He recognize the shape and the form of the characters.
But not in bahasa, he get confuse in Bahasa.
Confuse between suku kata sounds and phonics sounds in english .
Examples ... Suku Kata Terbuka: a, e, i, o, u, ba, ca, su, ka, ja, di, co.
He always give me the wrong sounds .

What is the best way to teach ???

On the 1st of March me and hub take a leave off,
To register Jeremy's to Chinese Primary School .
Even the grandpa waiting for us in the Primary School that day,
& hope for his grandson able to register into this Chinese School .Cos chances for him to get in was 50%-50%.
Students was getting more and more each year,
Can you imagine, for primary standard one,
They have more then 10 classes, each classes with more then 50 students...!!
Sound crazy right ???
If our kid is good then maybe can go in for the 1st 5 classes,
How if he is not that good, he be at the lass few classes .
That's one of the reason that make me worry ,
Is my boy keeping up with society !!??
But we wish for the best and will have to come back to check next year.
I hope by the time he enter primary school, He is alright and keeping up with society !!
